Algorithmic Rituals

Algorithmic Rituals is a participatory exploration of how computer systems that make decisions impact our behaviour and interactions with each other presented by Kathryn Blair, our resident computer genius on the EMMEDIA Board of Directors.

It's becoming easier and easier to collect large amounts of data about people, process it using computers and use it to help automate decisions. These decisions can range from what movies or ads to show to who should get hired for a job or how healthcare should be allocated. The decisions impact all of us, sometimes based on what services we use, but also in contexts where we can't decide to opt in or opt out. Our relationships to these systems and each other change our behaviours in subtle ways.

This live stream is a taste of Algorithmic Rituals, in which participants turn the everyday movements they use to engage with technology into a series of motions, and then do them together, using the motions of others to change our own motion in turn. Let's see what our algorithmic ritual will become!
